2018–Present

Photography allows me to develop and visualize abstraction through space, composition, and connection. I work intuitively with the subject, allowing the atmosphere and chemistry of the encounter to guide the images. Through multiple exposures, I bring different moments and perspectives together within a single image. The gaze has become central to this process, shaping how I understand the relationship between self, body, and space.

This relational and intuitive approach also informs my in-person painting sessions. Rather than working from a fixed image or predetermined idea, I allow the encounter with the subject to shape the process. Attention, presence, and the dynamics between myself and the subject become part of the work, allowing the image to develop through the experience of being together.

Since spring 2018, I have worked exclusively with a Fujifilm X-E3 and a 23mm fixed focal-length lens, equivalent to approximately 35mm on a full-frame camera. The fixed lens requires me to move physically around the subject, making position and perspective integral to how I compose these double exposures entirely in-camera.

Context & Process
Created during the isolation of the COVID-19 lockdown, Body Landscapes is a series of close-up double-exposure photographs of my own body. Through cropping and rotation, familiar fragments become unfamiliar, expansive spaces. Rendered in black and white with an almost noir aesthetic, quiet forms emerge that suggest landscapes. The work reflects a desire to reconsider the body while creating imagined spaces shaped by solitude and introspection.

Question & Discovery
Born from a period of isolation and a longing for escape, Body Landscapes transforms the body into distant, uninhabitable landscapes. In these images, I discovered serene spaces devoid of people, where recognition gives way to abstraction and intimacy to distance. The familiar body becomes an imagined place — one that can be observed and inhabited, but never quite entered.
