Duets: Reciprocal Drawings is a participatory drawing experiment that explores reciprocity, connection, and co-authorship through structured shared mark-making. The project grew out of an experience in which making art with another person became an important form of intimacy. When that relationship ended, I found that what I missed most was not simply the person, but the experience of making art together. I began developing a structured process for facilitating that kind of connection with others.

In each drawing session, two people are guided through a sequence of shared exercises that gradually shifts between looking and not looking, responding and initiating, making and relinquishing control. The structure creates a space in which participants can become curious, enter a state of flow, and experience drawing without the usual pressure to produce a particular image or outcome. Because each drawing depends on both participants, the work cannot be authored by either person alone.
